Charley's Swipe File #6

A two-chart Excel figure with line and column plots, for use in professional reports or PowerPoint slides.

The Father of Spreadsheet Dashboard Reports

This professionaly designed Excel chart figure shows a pair of charts with monthly “buckets” that represent different types of business data.(Many of my swipe files use Greeking, which is fake Latin. It helps you ignore the textual content and focus on the actual charts and tables.)

Each set of swipe files comes with two PDFs for documentation: a general, eight-page "Getting Started" document, and a two-page document specific to the current swipe file.

Usage Ideas

● Use the figure in Word or PDF documents.

● Use it in PowerPoint slides, perhaps with changed dimensions.

● Add the figure to an Excel report. To make it fit with the rest of the page, use similar fonts for major titles. And use a hint of the darker color, perhaps for major headlines or thick underlines.

From the documentation for this swipe file...

This figure shows a pair of charts with monthly “buckets”. The columns and the lines in the chart typically would represent different types of data

As a general rule, lines represent a continuous series, while columns represent discrete events. So lines typically would be used for actual data and the columns for targets.

The workbook is set up as a mini dashboard report. That is, it includes a Control sheet and two Figure Data Support (FDS) sheets.

I name FDS sheets using single letters. These two are named A and B. If you add other charts to this display, I recommend that you don’t name a sheet C and R.

To see why I don’t use sheets C or R...

(Continued in the documentation.)
