Charley's Swipe File #7

If it weren’t for the formatting, this would be just an ordinary Excel table. But WITH the formatting, this table looks professionally designed.

If it weren’t for the formatting, this would be just an ordinary Excel table. But WITH the formatting, this table looks professionally designed.(Many of my swipe files use Greeking, which is fake Latin. It helps you ignore the textual content and focus on the actual charts and tables.)

Each set of swipe files comes with two PDFs for documentation: a general, eight-page "Getting Started" document, and a two-page document specific to the current swipe file.

Usage Ideas

● To use this formatting for a full-page table in Excel, you’ll probably need to make the colors behind the numbers lighter. Otherwise, you could have too much color.

● Use the figure in Word or PDF documents.

● Use it in PowerPoint slides, perhaps with changed dimensions.

From the documentation for this swipe file...

If it weren’t for the formatting, this would be just an ordinary Excel display. But WITH the formatting, courtesy of CFO Magazine, this table looks professionally designed.

Notice that five short blocks of text are in upper case. Some publications and many individuals over-use upper case. This display uses the most I would recommend.

The argument in favor of all-caps is that it emphasizes the text, drawing the reader’s attention and giving the text added weight.

However, science shows that using all-caps makes text more difficult to read. This is because our eye relies on the variation that normal text generates at the top of each word. This variation helps us to differentiate one word from the next, and one letter from the other.
