Charley's Swipe File #8

Excel 2007 and after gives us the power to set chart transparency. When we combine this new power with drawing objects, we can create some interesting effects.

Charley's Swipe File #8(Many of my swipe files use Greeking, which is fake Latin. It helps you ignore the textual content and focus on the actual charts and tables.)

Each set of swipe files comes with two PDFs for documentation: a general, eight-page "Getting Started" document, and a two-page document specific to the current swipe file.

Usage Ideas
●  Use the figure in Word or PDF documents.
●  Use it in PowerPoint slides.
●  Add the figure to an Excel report. To make it fit with the rest of the page, use similar fonts and a hint of the blue and/or gray for titles or underlines.
●  To display monthly trends, change the column chart to a line chart.
From the documentation for this swipe file...

This figure shows that with a little creativity, you can turn a rather ordinary chart into a more interesting one.

But the Classic Excel version illustrates more creativity than the New Excel version. Even if you have New Excel, you’ll learn some tricks that you’ll probably find worthwhile.

In Classic Excel, there's a problem: Chart backgrounds can’t be semi-transparent. How can I set up the same effect when a key area of functionality is missing?

You’ll find this is a common problem when you try to duplicate a figure in Excel. Sometimes, there’s no solution. But you’ll be surprised about how often you can find a way to “fake” a solution.

(Continued in the documentation.)
