Charley's Swipe File #29This chart shows a trend compared with one primary condition (US recessions in light green) and three secondary conditions (recessions in the Big Four European countries, the Asian Five countries, and Canada).

What’s unusual about this chart is how the recessions are displayed.

Economic charts often display recessions as in light green. But you’ve probably not seen indicators like the ones at the bottom of the chart.

You can use these indicators for conditions other than recession, of course. They could show when certain ads ran, or when you held a sale, or other actions you’ve taken to improve performance.
