The Father of Spreadsheet Dashboard Reports

This mini-dashboard displays quarterly and daily data in a format suitable for Excel, Word, and PDF presentations. Use it to display any data, not just financial data. This mini-dashboard figure shows actual performance for Microsoft and the Dow Jones Industrial Average.

Unlike most reports, this one mixes two sets of time “buckets.”
Both Revenues and Net Income show quarterly numbers. I used a column chart for this data because quarterly data is, well, lumpy; and so are column charts.

Both the Stock Price and the Dow Jones Average figures show daily numbers. But to enforce some regularity on the data flows, I used formulas in the workbook to condense them into weekly snapshots, which the dashboard displays.

All figures show actual Microsoft and DJIA data, and the workbook shows the online source of each data series, which will allow you to find similar data for other companies.

Usage Ideas

In finance and marketing, many Excel, Word, and PDF reports include mini dashboards with quarterly data, daily data, or both. This dashboard can be a starting place for those displays. Also, you can delete or change any of the charts to create your own set of similar displays.
